Princess Shabnam

Taking a step forward when winning a handicap over this trip at Chelmsford June 16, Princess Shabnam had posted better efforts when second in a more competitive race of that type at Chester July 9 and when second to Ebro River (Ire) (Galileo Gold {GB}) in the Listed Queensferry S. back at the latter venue at the end of last month. Quickest away from the inside draw, the bay travelled easily for Nicola Currie on the front end and stayed on well up the hill to record a breakthrough success. Sean Woods registering a first black-type win since returning from Hong Kong. The last foal out of a granddaughter of the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, G1 Champion S. and GI Beverly D S.-winning champion Hatoof (Irish River {Fr}) from the family of the G1 Prix de Diane-winning champion Mrs. Penny (Great Nephew {GB}).

Sean commented, “the draw was a help as Princess Shabnam has natural gate speed, so she didn’t have to do anything to hold her position. It looks as though the ones behind ran their race and this is a career best for my filly. We’ll take her home and have a think about her next race."

Bred by Maurice and Madeline Burns’s Rathasker Stud, which also stands her sire Gregorian, she is a Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale graduate.
