About Us

Rathasker Stud is situated on 400 acres of top quality Kildare land. Kildare has long been regarded as one of the finest locations in the world to bred high-class bloodstock.

Maurice Burns is pictured on the far right, his daughter Madeline beside him on right and his wife Theresa is pictured on the far left. Rathasker is very much a family run farm, Maurice has been assisted by Theresa since the stud was purchased in the mid 80’s. Having graduated from UCD with a degree in Commerce International (Spanish) Madeline worked in Australia for leading stud farm Widden and for renowned trainer Gai Waterhouse before returning back to the business.

2018 was an exciting year for Rathasker. We kicked off the year with the Brocklesby Stakes winner Izzer (Clodovil) and we started as we meant to go on! Clodovil provided five Stakes performers in 2018 including Listed Criterium de Lyon winner and Gr.2 Railway Stakes placed Certain Lad.

Bungle Inthejungle proved himself to be a revelation with his first runners hitting a 45% winners to runners strike rate and 28 individual winners. Rumble Inthejungle became his major flagbearer placing in the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes then showing serious talent to blitz the Molecomb Stakes in tremendous fashion and subsequently coming a close third in the Gr.1 Middle Park. We now look forward to seeing his first crop progress at three and to exciting two year old newcomers!

Our other first season sire for 2018 was Gregorian has demonstrated the strength and depth of his first crop by producing six Stakes performers ; Queen Jo Jo, Chynna, Gypsy Spirit, San Gregorio, Irish Trilogy and Greach. He tied second on the list of Black Type Performers with Kingman at 12.2%. With the size and scope of Gregorian's stock we look forward to 2019 with the belief that they will progress as Gregorian did throughout his racing career.

We were extremely pleased with the first foals of Coulsty, a Gr.3 winner by top speed producer Kodiac, they are very athlethic individuals and many of the breeders returned their dam's on the strength of their physicals. We have some very nice yearlings to offer by Coulsty in 2019 and we know that he will get good support in his new home at Norman Court Stud.

In addition, Anjaal’s first yearlings were in demand at the sales with trainers recognising his high class two year old ability in winning the Gr.2 July Stakes and also being fans of his sire, Bahamian Bounty. They look to be powerful horses for 2019 - we are looking forward to seeing them race! It looks to be a busy and fruitful year ahead. Many thanks to our loyal band of clients for their continuous support.

Nancy Sexton in Racing Post Bloodstock Review of 2018 "Rathasker's determination to support and maximise the potential of it's roster continues undiminished. It is the kind of belief that set Bungle Inthejungle on the right track and will be evident as Anjaal's first crop debuts. 2019 promises to be another noteworthy year."
