Successful Inaugural Sponsorship of Gr.3 Pheonix Sprint Stakes at The Curragh

10 Aug 2020

Big thank you to the team at the Curragh racecourse for arranging our inaugural sponsorship of the Gr.3 Rathasker Stud Pheonix Sprint Stakes. It was a highly successful day with coverage of the scintillating contest shown live on ITV and Racing TV. We received a lot of positive feedback from clients and friends following the day. It was a chance for us to support the industry by giving back to the various owners and trainers that purchase yearlings from us each year. Pat Keogh of the Curragh said, “we welcome Rathasker as sponsors. I’m delighted that they got such a good line up for the Gr.3 Pheonix Sprint Stakes. I hope this is the start of a long and very positive relationship.”

Excitingly the race was won by Archie Watson’s English raider Glen Shiel. Winning jockey Oisin Orr commented, “he’s very tough, when I did get him out and got him rolling he came home strongly.” The Racing Post analysis read, “a classy contest. All bar one of the runners had a three-figure rating. Less than a length separated the first four home. Glen Shiel has developed into a really smart sprinter and certainly deserves his mark of 108. He found plenty under pressure and won bravely. He probably deserves a crack at a Group 1 at some stage and the Prix de la Foret might be an option as he handles cut in the ground.” Many congratulations to winning owners Hambleton Racing!
