Steel Bull proves well named on debut at Naas

23 Jul 2020

Steel Bull (Clodovil ex MacArthurs Park) broke in second rank and tracked the leaders on the bridle through halfway in this debut at Naas in the Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Maiden. Gathered together inside the two pole, the 2-1 chance quickened to the fore passing the furlong marker and was pushed clear to easily outpoint Dense Star (Starspangledbanner) by 2 ½ lengths. Winning rider Leigh Roche commented, “He was showing us plenty at home, ability wise, but we didn’t know whether he was fit enough. He was still a little bit raw and it took him a few strides to get going, but when he did he put the race to bed and hit the line very well. He will improve a lot from that races and is one to look forward to. He’s very straightforward, he travels, he settles and when you ask him to pick up he picks up, puts his head down and gallops to the line.” Steel Bull is the second of two foals produced by a half-sister to Listed Curragh Stakes Three Sea Captains (Choisir), who in turn is out of a winning daughter of Gr.1 Haydock Sprint Cup heroine Lavinia Fontana. Congratulations to trainer Michael O’Callaghan and to Andrew and Riona Lynch who purchased him off us at Ascot Yearling Sale and who reoffered him at the breeze-ups.
