Gregorians Queen Jo Jo wins Gr.3 Summer Fillies Stakes

Queen Jo Jo (Gregorian ex River Song) delivered a KO punch at York in the Gr.3 Summer Fillies Stakes. Last term’s Listed Kilvington Fillies Stakes victress was rewarded for her consistency with a Group win at York. The Kevin Ryan incumbent, who had also hit the board in the 2018 Gr.2 Lowther Stakes at the Knavesmire track and last season’s Gr.3 Ballyogan Stakes at The Curragh, was left trailing in the dust of all 17 rivals through halfway in the six-furlong charge. Winding up out wide approaching the quarter-mile marker, the 25-1 outsider was unrelenting under a continued drive in the closing stages and chinned Breathtaking Look by a neck in the final stride for a career high. “She got me my first Listed win last and now she’s got me my first Group win this year,” said winning rider Sam James after going two-for-two aboard the March-foaled grey. “I knew halfway she was going to come good and, when I asked her, she really picked up. She’d probably get seven furlongs and is good at this trip when she’s got a good pace to gallop at. This is very special.”

Queen Jo Jo is one of four winners and the leading performer for Listed Fairfield Stakes runner-up River Song. She is a half-sister to the dam of five times Stakes placegetter Gypsy Spirit (also by Gregorian). River Song is kin to Gr.2 Queen Anne Stakes hero Allied Forces and is out of a dual-winning half to three black type performers – headed by Listed Prix de Bagatelle victrix Nureyev’s Best and to the dam of Gr.1 Kentucky Derby and Gr.1 Preakness Stakes winning sire Real Quiet.
