Double for Clodovil with Gunmetal and Bengali Boys

20 Apr 2017

First off the mark was Charlie Hills trained Gunmetal (Clodovil ex March Star) in the opening 6f handicap of Wednesday’s Craven meeting. Gunmetal was well supported and, always prominent, picked up well when shaken up. His previous efforts had come on good and good to soft ground, but he seemed to relish this quick ground. Congratulations to breeder, Maurice Byrne.

Then at Beverley, Richard Fahey’s Bengali Boys shone as an exciting two year old for his sire Clodovil. Bengali Boys broke smartly from an outside box and settled in a handy sixth after the initial exchanges of the first go. Nudged along to close at the two pole, the 4-1 second choice quickened well to challenge with 100 yards remaining and was ridden out to prevail by a length from Wahoo. The 11,000EUR yearling becomes the third winner, from as many foals to race, produced by Caherassdotcom half sister to three times Stakes winner Dubai’s Touch, Listed HH The President Cup scorer Grantley Adams, Gr.3 Diomed Stakes third Wannabe Around and Gr.3 Prix de la Jonchere placegetter Nobelist. Kin to a yearling by Casamento, he hails from a family which includes Gr.3 Fred Darling winning Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas runner up Penkenna Princess. Caherassdotcom is in foal to first season sire Coulsty. Well done to breeders Catherine and Nicholas Hartery of Caherass Stud.
