Fast Company filly lights up DBS Silver Sale

29 Aug 2014

"The buzz across the DBS salesground for yesterday's inaugural Silver Sale was welcomed by vendors and buyer's alike, with a fair proportion of the talk garnered by Rathasker Stud's sale-topping Fast Company filly. Knocked down to Tom Malone for £55,000, the January-born offering will join Lanarkshire trainer Keith Dalgleish. "She's a speedy-looking filly and looks an early two-year-old type," said Malone of his buy, who is the second foal out of Queen Mary Stakes Lucky Leigh. "The dam was rated 100 over five furlongs, and she's already bred a runner rated in the high eighties in France (Something Lucky) - the pedigree looked a lot better than at first glance after we researched it."

One of four winners for her dam Solmorin, Piccolo mare Lucky Leigh has a filly foal by Clodovil - the sire of Something Lucky - and is in foal to Rathasker resident Born To Sea, who is currently covering to Southern Hemisphere time. Maurice Burns said, "I didn't realise until this morning that horses sold here could run in the £300,000 DBS Premier Sales Stakes, so it's great that buyers can pick up a cheaper horse and still be in with a chance to tun in the big sales race. The sale has worked well - I think if you have a lot of people here for a sale, it's good to keep it going - and it's easier for us, because we can bring all the horses in one go."
