Moriarty steals the show in the Lord Mayors Cup

Moriarty (Clodovil) has taken the feature race of the day at Rosehill on Saturday, the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) for Trainer Chris Waller.

While Moriarty’s aim this campaign is the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 8th he won his third stakes race this year in fine form settling at the tail of the field before unleashing a brilliant turn of foot from the 200m and he exploded through to immediately take the lead.

“It was a good ride from Nash Rawiller and he just bided his time and waited for the break,” said Waller. “Hopefully there will be a 2200m race up there (Brisbane) in a couple of weeks’ time and that would tide him over for the Brisbane Cup. He went out in pretty good condition as he had won the Gosford Cup and he has always had a good turn of foot so that differentiates him from a lot of stayers.”

“He gave me a good feel out of the barriers and he is obviously in a good frame of mind this horse. He is going extremely well,” said Rawiller.

Moriarty is a five-year-old by Clodovil out of the Criminal Type mare Justice System, his wins include the Tattersall’s Cup and Gosford Cup in January. Bred by Rathasker Stud, Justice System has a Clodovil filly foal on the ground.
