Moriarty and Tuttipaesi start the year in black type fashion for their sire Clodovil

A daring manoeuvre by jockey Corey Brown has gave Moriarty a Listed victory in the Tattersalls Club Cup at Rosehill, Australia on the 1st of January 2013. The Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) was supposed to be Moriarty’s final run of the preparation but trainer Chris Waller said his campaign could now be extended to include the $125,000 Gosford Cup (2100m) on Thursday week. “He could have gone to the paddock after the Christmas Cup but clearly 2000 metres is his best distance. He is a horse with a great constitution and the Gosford Cup could be a good option.”

Previous to the Tattersalls, Moriarty’s past two starts produced a third in the ATC Cup (2200m) and fourth in the Summer Cup (2400m). Trainer Waller stated "I think 2000 metres is his best distance and the blinkers go on to help him concentrate. I'm happy with him but much depends on if he's still got a run in him after a long campaign. And it's a good field with a spill-over from the Villiers which will be a test." In the early part of his campaign, Moriarty put three wins together from 1550 to 1800 metres then ran two seconds before his foray into stakes company.

Moriarty’s dam Justice System is a resident at Rathasker and is in foal to Clodovil.

Also, Tuttipaesi was victorious in the Ginger Brew Stakeson the first day of the New Year in the US. The Valor Ladies LLC’s 3-year-old Irish-bred filly Tuttipaesi raced in Italy and England last year and made an auspicious American debut at Gulfstream Park, Florida when rallying from off the pace to capture the $75,000 stakes race. Trained by Graham Motion and with Alan Garcia aboard, Tuttipaesi still had plenty to do at the top of the stretch, but came alive down the lane to post an impressive victory. Motion commented."We didn’t really do anything with her until we got her down here to Palm Meadows. I’ve been impressed with the way she’s trained, so I wasn’t surprised she ran well today." Megan Jones said “We will see how she comes out of this race and talk to Graham, but I would say a logical step could be something like looking at Florida Oaks in Tampa in February."

Tuttipaesi’s dam Ruby Ridge is owned by Eithne Hamilton and returning to Clodovil in the 2013 season.
