Rathasker bred Zhui Feng wins Royal Ascot Hunt Cup

21 Jun 2017

Rathasker and the Irish National Stud co-bred Zhui Feng (Invincible Spirit ex Es Que) made all to win one of the most competitive handicaps of the flat campaign, Royal Ascot’s Royal Hunt Cup. Jockey Martin Dwyer commented, “He’s a star, Zhui Feng. He ran great here over seven furlongs last time and we knew stepping up to a mile would suit him and he was very tough. This lad gallops for fun, when they gave him an uncontested lead I could save him up and then go again.” Zhui Feng is one of four black type performers produced by Es Que and is a half brother to Gr.1 Hong Kong vase winner Dominant (Cacique), Gr.2 Lennox Stakes winner Es Que Love (Clodovil) and this year’s Gr.3 Prix Penelope runner up Listen In (Sea The Stars). He is also kin to the hitherto unraced 2 year old filly Million Smiles (Galileo) and a yearling filly by Oasis Dream. Es Que is a winning daughter of Listed Prix Rose de Mai victress and Gr.3 Prix Penelope third Bellona and shares her Gr.3 Prix de Royaumont winning granddam Bellarida with Gr.1 Prix de l’Opera heroine We Are. Congratulations to yearling purchasers Peter and Ross Doyle, trainer Amanda Perrett and owners John Connolly & Odile Griffith.
